Dr. Devkota had his PhD from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, in July 2010 and a Master’s Degree in Health Education from Tribhuvan University of Nepal. Dr. Devkota’s expertise focuses on health services
and health promotion research. In addition to teaching health education and promotion research to
MPhil and Ph.D. students, which includes significant content on IEC, BCC, and SBC, including
social marketing, Dr. Devkota is extensively involved in consulting work, most of which covers
behavior change communication research, formative research, endline and impact evaluation,
communication strategy development, and creative materials development. He is confident in
using various social and behavior change models. He is equally involved in leading BCC research at
the policy and implementation levels on WASH, COVID-19, Safe Motherhood, school nutrition,
menstrual hygiene, harmful practices such as early and forced child marriages and many other
public health, social and education-related issues. He is well known for preparing policy briefs as
well for different organizations. He has worked with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education,
and Ministry of Water Supply and Ministry of Education, Science & Technology to carry out
national-level research, evaluation studies, and policy documents. He has led several quantitative,
qualitative and mixed-method studies and published original articles in peer-reviewed journals. He
is confident in using Excel and SPSS software and is proficient in NVivo. In addition to interviews,
key informant interviews, focused group discussions, and observations, he demonstrated experience
in using human-centered design, participatory action research (PAR), and focused ethnographic
study.
Dr Devkota has worked as an independent consultant for several national, regional, and
international organizations. I have extensive experience working with DFID, USAID, EU, The
World Bank, UNDP, UNFPA, WFP, UNICEF, WHO, WWF, MRDF UK, Karuna Trust, Room to
Read, Save the Children, Mercy Corps, FH Designs Australia, Plan International, Water Aid, Un
Habitat, WHH, CRS, etc. He has worked with all three tiers of government in Nepal and is good at
coordinating and liaising with them. He has successfully led a 7-year-long Rupantaran project
implemented by Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, and Norwegian University of Life
Sciences, Norway, funded by NORAD/NORHED. He has secured several funding as a team
member. Currently, he is collaborating with Canterbury Christ Church University, UK, for a WHO-
sponsored infertility study in South and South East Asia, Manchester University for a study on the
attack on health care, and Pittsburg University, USA, for a five-year intervention on menstrual
hygiene(Chhaupadi), named as SAMIP.
